Hey Switchers,

I know it’s been some time since you’ve heard from us … we’re back! We wanted to get back into our regular weekly cadence with a recap of our first Webinar. Hope you enjoy!

We recently hosted our very first Webinar, Improving your Job Search in 2023, and it was a tremendous success! We had a great turnout and received a lot of positive feedback from our attendees. If you missed it, here's a recap of the Webinar and a few key takeaways.

On the importance of understanding your why before you embark on your job search

Understanding your 'why' before embarking on your job search journey is crucial because it helps you focus and be more targeted. It allows you to narrow down and align your search with things that truly matter to you while also helping you determine what kind of sacrifices you might be willing to make to get to where you'd like to be.

Here's some feedback from a participant who realised that her job search was more exhausting and ultimately longer due to her lack of clarity and focus.

On showcasing your transferable skills when making a career transition

The central topic of the Webinar was how to showcase your transferable skills, and I shared a step-by-step approach to understanding which of your skills can be classified as transferable and how best to showcase them in your CV.

Here's some feedback from a participant who realised she needed to showcase her transferable skills better.

On choosing empowering words to describe your achievements within your CV

In the webinar, we also got a chance to go deeper into what makes a well written CV. When writing your CV, action verbs that showcase your contribution to a project, area of work or job to be done are important because they help recruiters get a better sense of your capabilities, skill level and seniority.

Here’s a snippet of feedback from a participant who realised the importance of using words that show the importance of your contribution to the work.

And finally, on realising you’re not alone and finding community in the path of being a generalist

One of my favourite outcomes from the Webinar was that we built a sense of community. Participants, all of a sudden, didn't feel so alone in their job search journey. They realised others struggled with similar challenges and felt seen and understood. One participant was finally able to put a label on herself that felt empowering to her and made her realise that her skills and experiences were valid and valued too.

Here's a snippet from that participant who finally felt content in being known as a generalist!

Overall, we're thrilled with the success of our first Webinar. It was an excellent opportunity to share our knowledge and expertise with our community, and we're already planning our next Webinar. Thank you to everyone who attended the event.

Stay tuned for more exciting webinars from our team!

Happy Job Hunting!
