Careers&Things Holiday Reading List
And here it is, our Holiday Reading List, The reading list to keep you company this holiday season while we take a short break from our bi-weekly newsletter. :)
Starting off strong, we have a book that epitomises what we do here at Careers&Things - advocates for the ability to go forth and conquer in new industries, skills areas and focuses.
1. “Range: Why Generalists Triumph in a Specialised World" by David Epstein
Range is an incredible book that argues strongly and convincingly for being a generalist and/or having a generalist approach to work and life. This book is perfect for those who are exploring diverse skills and careers and has given me the confidence to continue down my own path of generalist skills and experiences!
2. "Dare to Lead" by Brené Brown
2024 was a powerful year of growth for me. I stepped into leadership roles that required that I step into the leadership with confidence and clarity to ensure I’m able to lead with vision, intention, and empathy. This book is a powerful guide for anyone navigating leadership for the first time or simply looking to do things differently in their leadership role. The book is full of insights into courageous leadership, vulnerability, and fostering meaningful connections at work.
3. "Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less" by Greg McKeown
Have you ever had a lot of amazing ideas that you want to pursue and end up feeling frustrated and confused about which to pursue? Do you notice you have numerous half-completed projects? Well, this book might be for you. While I read this book a while ago, I never forget its simple yet impactful message on why it’s important (and how) to narrow your focus on what truly matters to achieve success.
Thanks for reading Careers&Things! Share this reading list and our newsletter with your friends!
4. “The Other Significant Others: Reimagining Life with Friendships at the Center” by Rhaina Cohen.
As a young woman navigating corporate life, entrepreneurship, and relationships (romantic and otherwise), this book was the fresh perspective I needed at a time when I found myself looking to define love and relationships for myself in new and increasingly more authentic ways. This book is a must read so please grab a copy and let us know what you think!
5. “The Life Impossible” by Matt Haig
I’ve recently started exploring Fiction novels again after years of not touching them (the last Fiction novel I read with any kind of enthusiasm was The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown in high school lol).
This book called to me with its blue cover and I have not been able to put it down since I bought it. It has an ethereal, fun, magical realism and sci-fi element to it that captures ones imagination. It’s s story about grief, reinvention, and the power of second chances, and a reminder that it’s never too late to find joy and heal.
